Production Details: The director's concept was to reference the illustrations of the original text. The costumes, set, and lighting design were designed to have a great variety of color, texture and patter to create the fantastical world. This production had the support of the UMD costume shop.
Costume Details: Part of the concept for this production was to have an ensemble of actors that portrayed all the different environments of the play. Their costumes consisted of tie-dyed shirts and wrap pants which allowed then to blend into the scenery when necessary but stand out when their legs extended from the pant slits. The fox, rose, and snake costumes were all designed to be the same level of abstraction as each other. For example, the snake costume had no sleeves and a long tail, but the actor still stood upright. Similarly, the fox costume had a tailcoat vest and fur collar, but was not covered in fox fur.
