The Eccentricities of a Nightingale
Costume and Makeup Design by Caitlin Quinn
Directed by Oliver Myers, MFA
University of South Dakota

Production Details: I designed this production for the University of South Dakota shortly before I moved out of the state. I pulled costumes for the actors but was virtual for the fittings. The assistant costume designer and I kept in close contact throughout the build process, but all my design work was done remotely. The final product shows the success of the remote design process. This production had the full support of the USD costume shop.

Costume Details: The concept for this piece was that the main character, Alma, stands out as off-balance in a very regulated world. Her costumes are designed to be proportioned just oddly enough to stand out (too much lace at the collar and skirt, hat too big, coat to vibrant) in contrast to the very regulated lines of the Buchanan's. The idea is Alma is always "too much" for the town and ultimately is punished for being different.
